Institutional Memory

I'm just finishing up rewatching the West Wing, and at the end of series 7 they're working on handing over to the next President. There's an episode called "Institutional Memory", the background being that the new staff want to keep hold of some of the previous staff so they don't make the same mistakes again or at least remember where the printer paper is stored.

Which reminded me that given an earlier conversation at church with an electrician who's trying to work out what the hell "Isolator 2" is, I've been around so long that I can walk up to the end point and go "it's this".

There are folks that have been in the church longer than me, but at 28 years and counting doing technical stuff I think I know where most of the bodies are buried.

This, coupled with holding the archive of photos taken when the current building was being built, and photos of the opening of the older building on site does help see how things have changed over the years.

Anyway, it's nice to be able to see things change. It's not always been how it is now, there's a history.
